I figured I would keep an up to date listing of Nvidia and ATI drivers. I am only going to list the drivers for the XP/2000 os versions.

Nvidia - http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html

ATI - https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...dge&folderID=27

The Nvidia link is direct to the download page, the ATI link makes you pick the versions, it doesnt have a seperate page to the direct driver links.

The quick release from nVidia was making me wonder so I looked into it a bit. As far as I know, the only real change is that they fixed the incorrect reporting of the VPU temperature. The last driver was reporting about 10º C too high. They seem to have got that fixed. rolleyes.gif

I didnt check that but I see my vc is showing about 45C again, it was at 52C since I got the last vc back from the RMA. I thought that was high since before it was at the 45C but I wasnt worried about it, since that was close to what temps you had before.

Try this direct link to the current ATI drivers... If you look at the main ati page and go left they have a direct link for XP drivers...

http://www.ati.com/home/online/catalystcccdriver.html

I do not know if this changes but the direct link has been on the page for awhile now so I am guessing no.

If you are looking for the latest catalyst driver for your laptop which is not supported by ATI catalyst drivers (the new Catalyst Mobility may now fix this) go to www.omegadrivers.net as his releases are really good and stable but it sometimes takes him a week or two to get the updates out.

I have gone back to the 71.89 drivers. The new ones seem okay for most stuff but they seem to change the color settings when playing videos as everything I tried had a washed out look. Changed back and they were fine. I have looked around a bit online and it seems pretty much everyone is having this problem. I suspect there will be new drivers out fairly quick. I suppose they were in a rush to have them out for the 7800 release but you would think they would check what they are releasing a bit better. I am really quite certain at this point the next time I upgrade a vc it will be back to ATI cards since Nvidia seems to just put out crap drivers of late, when they finally get around to releasing them.

If you updated to the 77.72 drivers I would highly recommend rolling back to the 71.89 drivers, especially if you do play DS. I had not played DS or Abstraction after I installed the new drivers, but I did run a couple videos and I had the washed out look so I just went back without checking anything else. Wowsher was trying the Abstraction file and kept getting freezes and sound stuttering, he told me the same thing then happened when he tried on regular DS. That he went back with the older drivers and those issues were gone.

To me this looks like Nvidia rushed out drivers to go with their 7800 release. He did say that benchmark scores were new highs for him. So if you dont play DS at all and you dont mind crappy video playback the new drivers may be okay. But I would recommend waiting for new ones that hopefully fix these issues.

Dang you beat me too it. Yes I was getting all kinds of video & sound freeze ups when running DSLOA with and without Abstraction. It would go from every 5-10 minutes to 5 times in one minute... very frustrating. Anyhow I have reverted back to the 71.89 as SJR suggested and all is great now. My recommendation stay away from the 77.72 as there is something wrong with them for certain setups (I am guessing someone must have thought they ran fine as they are posted on the Nvidia site).

Here's info on how to fix the 'bleached out' look of video after upgrading your nVidia drivers. Very simple.

This spot has the 77.76 beta drivers that is supposed to fix it as well. http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_download...p_2k_77.76.html Though it is not as easy to test any more since I had upgraded.

That may fix the bleached out video issue but I still had been having the studdering issues with that driver release... However I will not be able to test that anymore since I switched the the ATI 850XT.
